Bloodhound Behavior and Training

The Bloodhound is a breed that strictly follows pack hierarchy. They need to know who is boss.  When caring for a bloodhound, it is imperative that you are the pack leader and that you establish this very early in your relationship.  If you don't establish dominance, he will dominate you! Then you will have a 100lb. brat on your hands.

At the same time, the bloodhound is a noble soul with great dignity.  He is very sensitive to kindness and to abuse.  You don't tell a bloodhound what to do, you ask him. He doesn't take well to forceful training. Bloodhounds are very loyal to their owners and are good with kids.  Well-trained bloodhounds are never aggressive or mean.  Basic obedience training is always a good idea for any bloodhound.
